The Chrysler Group rolled out its latest entry for the lucrative "black car" market on Tuesday, revealing new "Luxury Series" editions of its flagship Chrysler 300 sedan that add new interiors to recent powertrain additions. The new versions feature leather-wrapped interior components. The vehicles also have heated steering wheels with special die-cast paddle shifters and wood trim, according to a Chrysler statement.

Volvo and Polestar offer post-sale software upgrades

Volvo's performance arm, Polestar, will offer software upgrades for the T6 and 2.5T engines that will increase horsepower and torque. The upgrade should calm Volvo fans who missed out on the limited-edition Polestar C30. For the T6 engine in the 2010 Volvo XC60 and 2009-2010 XC70 Polestar will offer a bump in output from 281 hp to 311 hp.

There's something about German automakers and model proliferation—it seems that if there is a niche to be filled, no matter how vanishingly small, a vehicle will be devised to fill it. If no niche is extant, they'll simply invent one, which is how we wound up with the unprompted X6. Audi's new A3 lineup, which debuted at the Los Angeles auto show and will begin its 18 month-long North American rollout spring 2014, seems incredibly rational by comparison.
